Home in South Carolina

On Monday March 2, 2009 Jeffrey and I arrived at our new home in South Carolina. We have a three bedroom brick duplex. This will be our home for the next year and a half or until they tear it down and build us a new one. The duplexes were built in the early 70s I believe and they would like newer less lead/asbestos type housing to replace them. I'm loving it here. Jeffrey and I have gotten all the major things unpacked and Sunday we will be getting the decorations up on the walls. If you enter the main door at the front, the kitchen is to your left. A closet is to your right. Just after the closet on the right is the hallway leading to the bedrooms. Down that hallway on the right there is a linen closet, the guest bathroom (we we pretty much just use) and the door to the master bedroom which has its own small bathroom. On the left is the two doorways to the other two bedrooms. The room directly across from ours is going to be the nursery/guest bedroom. The other bedroom is the office / animal room. Its where the cats sleep at night and where Inara & Oogways cages are. It also has two bookshelves (fully loaded with books), a cabinet & Jeffrey's desk. At the very end of that hallway is a huge walk in closet. Which kinda reminded me of when Paula slept in a closet on one of the girls trips cause that is totally what someone could do with this one! Just throw the queen blow up in there and we have another room ;) Right now Jeffrey is using it as his closet. That's where all his military stuff pretty much went. The kitchen is a good size one but just not designed all that well I guess. Not for a pregnant woman with a big belly! As you walk into the kitchen from the main door the washer and dryer are immediately to your right. Cabinets above the washer and dryer. On the left is the stove with cabinets above it that continue until you reach the other end of the adjoining wall. Along the main wall of the kitchen is all the counters and cabinets. They run from one end of the kitchen to the other end. Directly across from the stove on the other wall there is the refrigerator. I think what happened was that they put the counters and cabinets in first and then realized that they had no place to put a stove or refrigerator so they just threw them in on either side of the room between the doorways and the counters. Leaving about 5 inches maybe between the existing cabinets and the appliance. As you know stoves and refrigerators aren't skinny so trying to reach for anything that is in that space is horrible. It more or less cuts off half the counter space and cabinets for me. Its all good once I have Roanan it should be a bit better as my tummy wont be quite as big! There is three entrances to the kitchen. One from the hallway, one coming from the dining room and one that leads to the outside. The dining room and carport entry are pretty much a 90 degree angle from each other. So if you were walking in from outside immediately to your left is the doorway into the dining room and immediately to your right is the refrigerator (can also give you an idea of how small width wise our kitchen is). It is kind of nice having the doors that we do cause we can totally block off the kitchen from the cats. Which means while I am cooking they are not under my feet all the time and it also means that we can leave the outdoor door open when we bring in groceries with out having to worry about the cats. The dining room is small and is an open space with the living room. The only difference is that it has tile and the living room is carpeted. It fits the bistro table that I have nicely and that is where Jeffrey and I have our meals. Kinda glad that after two and a half if not three years that it is finally getting regular use. My computer desk (the one Julie gave me) is on the far wall across from the entryway to the kitchen. It wouldn't make the corner into the office (it did leave some nice marks on the doorway to the bathroom and the office though) so that is why it is in the living room. Which worked out well for the cable company cause otherwise they would have needed to drill a whole in the wall to get the cable into the office. We picked up an adapter so Jeffrey's PC is now wireless and we have a wireless router so he can have the Internet too. The only downside of it is that we are no longer in the same room when we are both on the PCs. The major benefit is that I don't have to be in the same room with the cat litter. Jeffrey is great about taking it out on a daily if not twice a day basis but it still just stinks to me cause you know that cats don't just use the litter box once a day. The edge of the computer desk is lined up with the edge of our couch. There is a door to the porch to the left of the PC and that is where the boys spend most of their time on nice days. It is a fully screened in porch with two entry ways to the outside to it. They boys can be out there with the fresh air and me not having to worry about them escaping. I took Oogway out there yesterday and he loved it too. He is one fast tortoise when he wants to be! The living room is big enough to fit our couch and chair, the TV and a bookshelf with a good deal of walking space. Its nice. and that takes us full circle back to the front entry hallway. As soon as I get Jeffrey's camera charged and the place cleaned up a bit I will post pictures of the place.
